At O’Keeffe O’Brien Lyson Attorneys, we get really excited about giving back to our community. This summer, we went all out by partnering with Down Home, a local non-profit organization whose mission is to help individuals and families transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing by providing furnishings and décor, making their new living space a real home.
It all started in May when the firm sponsored an in-house challenge to gather gently used furnishings and décor. The outpouring of quality items was fantastic. Spearheaded by Paralegal Deanna Storey, the group loaded a U-Haul truck completely full of items that were collected and stored in the firm’s basement. After they delivered that load to the Down Home warehouse, they spent the next several hours crisscrossing Fargo-Moorhead picking up furniture and décor items from various homes.
The real excitement came when the team got to furnish a Down Home approved recipient’s new home. In this case, a young mother was moving into her new apartment in early August. Her life was challenging before this wonderful opportunity came, and to say she was thankful is an understatement.
Several members of the firm’s team spent the morning of August 10th unloading, arranging, and preparing the new home for this thankful young woman and her you baby. In addition to funds raised on a GoFundMe page, the firm also financially sponsored the purchase of a number of personal items for the new home.
We’re grateful we got make a difference and look forward to more opportunities to impact our community in a positive way!
